Polygraph Tests

Why make use of polygraph tests?
Polygraph testing as a means of detecting deception is the oldest science in this field. Backed by many years of conducted & widely available published research it has a proven accuracy rate well above other methods used. Polygraph as a science is constantly being tested & improved & for this reason, most regulatory bodies (SAPPA included) require their members to attend advanced training courses to ensure they are always using the latest techniques, developments & industry standards.
How do polygraphs work?
Physiological responses are measured & recorded through 5 components of the equipment whilst the examinee is questioned about the issue being tested for. Once the polygraph test is completed, the examiner analyses the recordings to conclude on the truthfulness or deceptiveness of examinee.
Are polygraph tests accurate?
Depending on the skill of the examiner & their presentation of the test to the examinee, the APA (American Polygraph Association) has previously stated specific incident tests have an accuracy rate of up to 98 %. Remember, even DNA testing & eyewitness testimonies have proven to not always be 100 % accurate!
